CSCS Card

Every 2 years

Now valid for just 2 years for labourers (changed Feb 2025). Around 500,000 workers affected. Expired card means no site access — and lost revenue.

IPAF Licence

Every 5 years

Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) licence. Valid for 5 years. Required for operating cherry pickers, scissor lifts, and boom lifts on site.

PASMA

Every 5 years

Prefabricated Access Suppliers and Manufacturers Association certification. Valid for 5 years. Required for assembling and working from mobile towers.

SMSTS / SSSTS

Every 5 years

Site Management Safety Training Scheme. Valid for 5 years. Required for site managers and supervisors. Expired certificate means you can't manage a site.

CPCS Card

Every 5 years

Plant operator competence card. Required to operate excavators, cranes, forklifts and other heavy plant on site.

First Aid at Work

Every 3 years

At least one qualified first aider required per site. Three-year certificate — easy to forget until it's expired.

Manual Handling

Every 3 years

Required training for any role involving lifting or carrying. Common audit flag when it lapses.

Asbestos Awareness

Annual refresher

Mandatory for anyone who may disturb asbestos during their work. Refresher training recommended annually.

DBS Check

~3 years

Required for roles working with vulnerable people. No fixed expiry but most employers re-check every 3 years.
